What To Expect From A Boot Camp

You'll more than likely find that the programs found in one boot camp will differ from another. In some instances, the differences will be substantial. However, there are quite a few similarities as well. If you are considering joining one, here is some general information regarding what your experience will probably be like.
If you are on your own fitness regimen but are not as committed as you want to be, you won't have to worry about that in a boot camp. You'll be prodded and encouraged to finish each and every exercise completely. There will be no setting the treadmill for 45 minutes and then hopping off after 25 because you broke a sweat. You'll be expected to go the distance all the time.
The people who run your workouts will be committed to getting you in the best possible physical shape they can. As a result, you can expect that you will be stretched to your limits and then some.
It's important, obviously, that you put in some work before you start your boot camp. While you don't have to be in top shape, you definitely don't want to go in completely unprepared. That would be a recipe for misery. Get as much information on the program you'll be joining before stepping foot on the facility. Do some work on the treadmill or run outside at least two or three days a week. Do some different exercises to help get your muscles ready. Mix in some push-ups, pull-ups, lunges, squats, and more. If you don't have the time to run around the neighborhood, buy a workout DVD and exercise at home.
You'll also want to make sure that you have the right gear for the boot camp you'll be attending. Usually, these workouts will be held outside. If it's warm, have clothes that can breathe so you won't be overheated. If it's cold, have enough layers where you'll be protected but you'll still be able to move freely. Bring gloves if you'll be working with weights and a towel to wipe off. Above all, make sure that you have the right footwear for the kinds of exercises that you will be doing. Be 100% sure that the shoes you buy fit exactly right.
There is really no standard group of exercises that are run in boot camps. Again, each program has its own unique aspects. In general, however, you can probably expect to do sprints, squats, jumping jacks, and more. You'll probably also run an obstacle course of some kind and possibly some relays as well. Don't be surprised if you work with partners on a regular basis.
